Early Bird Registration (Before June 18, 2010) = $260
Group picture = $6
Early Bird Registration Deadline = Postmakred on or before June 18, 2010

NO refunds will be given for early departures from camp.

2. When did Cub Weeks start?
The Cub Weeks program began in 1944.  2004 marked the 60th anniversary of the program.

3. Who "owns" Cub Weeks?
Cub Weeks is a children's camp ministry of Camp Okoboji.  Camp Okoboji is the official district church campground of Iowa District West of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

4. What is a "dean?"
The dean is the head of the program and responsible for managing the staff and counselors, and working with the parents on Cub-related issues.

5. When will registration materials for the next year be available?
Registration materials will be mailed out to previous Cubs prior to Easter. They will also be available on this website as soon as we have them ready by following this link.

6. How is the theme picked?
The Cub Weeks Executive Staff meets up at Camp Okoboji in October to discuss the results of the current year's program and to resolves issues, pick dates for the next year's program, choose next year's theme, and set prices.

7. What is the Cub Bank?
The Cub Bank is our way of protecting your child's money while at camp.  We ask that all money be deposited in the bank.  The Cubs are given "spending tickets" (in $2 increments) to make purchases at the Camp store.  Cubs can get new spending tickets twice a day (11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.).  Unused bank money will be returned to the Cub during the checkout process.

8. What about cancellations?
Our current policy on cancellations is as follows:
a. If the cancellation is received by the registration deadline, a full refund will be given.
b. If the cancellation is received after the deadline, but is due to a serious medical reason or a death in the family - a full refund will be given.
c. If the cancellation is received after the deadline for any other reason, a full refund will only be given if we have someone to fill that registration.  Why?  We make a commitment to the Camp for food and housing when registration closes.

9. What happens if my child leaves after he or she has checked in?
At this time, no refunds are available for "early outs."

10. What about bank money if I cancel or leave early?
If possible, the money will be refunded when the Cub checks out.  Otherwise, money will be refunded if requested.

11. Who do I contact about registration questions?
Camp Okoboji.

12. Who do I contact about issues related specifically to the campgrounds themselves?
Doug Kading, Executive Director of Camp Okoboji.

13. Who do I contact about all other issues regarding Cub Weeks?
The Dean.  The current dean is Pastor Tim Geitz.

14. Why can't I check-in earlier than 3:30 p.m. on Sunday?
Most of our registration staff is made up of pastors from churches all over Iowa District West.  Our registration time frame is from 3:30-5:15 p.m. You can register any time within that time period. If you need to arrive later than that, please let either Camp or the Dean know that.

15. What if I can't pick up my child until after the 10:00 a.m. close of Camp on Saturday?
Our program officially ends at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. You must be present at this time to take responsibility for your child.  In case of emergency, please contact the Camp Okoboji office (712-337-3325).

16. What happens if my child is going to arrive late (Sunday evening or Monday, etc.)?
We can accommodate late arrivals.  Please come to the Camp Okoboji office (in the Christian Life Center), or find the Cub Weeks Dean when you arrive.  They will see that your Cub(s) are properly checked in.

17. What happens if my child has to leave early?
Early outs must be handled by the Dean.  Your child will be given any remaining bank money, and any craft that was started.

18. Can my child leave camp temporarily to attend a family or sporting event?
Yes.  Before you take your child from our Camp program, you must notify the Dean.  This includes taking your child to another part of Camp Okoboji (e.g. to a family reunion).

19. Can I be a counselor?
Camp Okoboji is responsible for recruiting both the paid summer-long counselors and the volunteer counselors.  As a minimum, counselors must be 17 years old.  Contact the camp (712-337-3325) for an application.

20. Can I volunteer to serve as a nurse?
Nurses must be registered RNs and have insurance.  Contact the Dean for more information about serving on our nursing staff.

21. What do the nurses do?
The nurses provide minor medical care and injury assessment.  They also make sure that the Cubs take their medication according to the instructions provided by the parents.

22. Can I stay overnight before camp starts or after camp ends?
Please contact the Camp Okoboji office (712-337-3325) for special housing requests and availability.

23. What is the group picture?
The group picture is taken on Monday morning after breakfast and includes all Cubs, counselors, and members of the Executive Staff.  Camp Okoboji is responsible for taking the photo and getting it processed and printed.  Extra photos may be available.  Please contact the  Camp office for more information.  Photos that are not picked up at checkout will be mailed upon request.

24. Can my child call home?
We ask that all calls home be made in coordination with the Dean.  This helps us keep track of plans or issues related to the Cubs in our program. It is recommended that they call home as little as possible to minimize homesickness. Calling home frequently causes more homesickness than it solves.

25. What if my child gets "homesick?"
We do everything we possibly can to encourage your child to stick with the program and enjoy the week.  We encourage parents to "be tough" and encourage your child to remain and actively participate in the program. We do not encourage parents or relatives to visit their child at camp as this usually causes more homesickness.

26. What if my child has special physical or mental needs?
We try our best to meet the needs of all children.  However, our program is not designed to accommodate children who require one-on-one or specialized care.  Camp Okoboji does provide a separate program called, "Joy Camp" that is designed to meet the needs of children who need more specialized or intensive care.  Please contact the Camp Office if you have questions about which program would be best suited for your child.
